One of my favorite parts of our recent trip to Paris was scouting out the street style of French men and women. It was almost a game, to see if it was evident whether someone was a native French person or a tourist. There were times when it was difficult to tell, but after a while, there were certain markers and tell-tale pieces that indicated that it was probably a local denizen. However, the street style I’ll be covering below is by no means limited to the City of Lights. These are classic, elevated style tips and outfits that can be worn by anyone (although in this case, I’ll be talking about men’s fall outfits!).

Whether you’re a man looking to update your fall wardrobe or a woman who wants to upgrade her man’s style (because men deserve to love how they feel in their clothes, too!), this post is a guide to looks perfect for cooler weather. Below are 23 outfits inspired by real Parisian street style (photo evidence included). These are some of the most memorable ensembles that you can easily create with your own wardrobe, or with the help of a little shopping.

Men’s Fall Outfits Seen in Paris

1. white jeans (cuffed) + denim shirt + boat shoes + brown belt

Looking for a different take on fall’s classic flannel shirt? Try a denim shirt like this one, instead. Denim is a great layer for warmth in cooler weather. Next, if you don’t want to go the route of a Canadian tuxedo à la Justin and Brittany, try a pair of white jeans. Bonus points if you cuff the jeans – it was very common to see cuffed jeans and chinos so that men could show off their shoes and socks. If you want to add a pop of color, socks in bright colors are trending right now in France.

To finish off the look, add a pair of navy boat shoes like these Sperrys for an elevated fall weekend look.

2. white tee + jeans (cuffed) + leather watch + olive green baseball hat + sambas

A classic white tee was the basis for many of the street style looks we saw for men’s fall outfits. (A note, they were usually very clean, well-fitting, and ironed!) For this look, add a pair of light-wash jeans. As you can see in the photo, try cuffing these as well. That helps show off the pair of Samba sneakers. If you prefer this look with tall socks, you could do a classic pair of white ones, or maybe pull out the green from the shoe.

Add a green hat in this sage color for another way to add a bit of brightness and interest to the simple ensemble. Finish the look with a watch of your choosing – a leather strap like this one is versatile and elevates the otherwise casual look.

3. striped tee + khaki pants + brown belt + black leather watch + converse high tops

When the weather is so unpredictable during the fall season, you might want a cooler look like this one that’s comfortable for walking around the city (or your neighborhood). Try a classic striped navy blue and white tee to start, and add a pair of khaki pants in a wider fit.

Finish the look with some leather details, like this brown belt and a black watch strap. For the final touch, a pair of Converse high tops add that effortlessly cool factor.

4. navy blazer + patterned scarf + plaid pants + leather dress shoes

Scarves were another popular sight when scouting street style in Paris for men’s fall outfits. They’re not only for the purpose of extra warmth but also to add another point of interest and personality to your look. Men’s fall fashion doesn’t have to be an area to play it safe – men can experiment with their looks and tastes too, and scarves are one of those items that could be fun to try out in the fall season.

Plaid pants, maybe even wool pants, are a great foundation for a look like this. Next, add a blazer like this navy one. You could wear a t-shirt underneath for your day-to-day look, or a sweater or turtleneck in the colder months. Finish the look with your choice of dress shoes in dark brown. Oxford shoes in a style like this pair were all over Paris for men! It’s the perfect look for work or for a nice dinner on the weekend.

5. white tee + ray ban sunglasses + watch + black jeans + socks + white sneakers

If monochromatic is more your style, this look is definitely for you. You can’t get much more classic than black and white, and this take on casual wear is perfect when it comes to simple but chic.

To start, choose a well-fitting, relatively thick white t-shirt. This is one item I never regret investing in (for a man or woman!), as it’s the perfect base layer for so many looks. A quality t-shirt will not wear as quickly and will last for way more washes than a less-quality counterpart. Plus, they generally look nicer, feel better, and make you look more expensive and put together!

Next, choose a vintage style black jean like this pair. If you’re ready to switch out the skinny jeans, try a slim fit like these. They will still give you a flattering shape but are more comfortable and up-to-date than super super-tight denim of the past.

For the details, a classic watch, a crisp pair of white sneakers, ankle socks, and your favorite sunglasses complete the look.

6. navy polo + gray chinos + weekender bag + leather loafers

Men walking around Paris were not afraid to try out different types of bags. Whether it is a weekender style like this one, a crossbody, or even a tote, Parisian men don’t limit themselves to backpacks. They’re another way to express personality. They’re also a chance to add a pop of color to an otherwise neutral outfit – like this navy and leather-detailed one.

The rest of this look is rather simple. Add a pair of gray trousers or chinos, a blue short-sleeve polo so you don’t overheat when walking the commute to work or lunch, and a pair of loafers, with no-show socks.

7. colored chinos + denim shirt + loafers + gray sweater (tied around shoulders)

In Paris, the morning would often start off cool, the streets shaded by tall apartment buildings, stores, and offices. Then, as the sun rose in the sky throughout the afternoon, it would warm up rather quickly! For this reason, a lot of Parisians seemed to take to tying an extra layer around their shoulders for safekeeping for cooler weather.

This look is the perfect example of how to layer different textures to create a cohesive look, perfect for cooler weather. Switch out your blue jeans for a denim shirt to start the look, in a medium wash. Then, choose a pair of blue (or any neutral color) of chinos. Finish the look with a pair of leather loafers in dark brown. These have a little thicker sole that would be perfect for the cobblestone streets in Paris. Because of the unevenness of the sidewalks, comfortable shoes are an absolute must.

A finishing touch is that wool cardigan tied around your shoulders!

8. white oxford + black jeans + gold-rimmed sunglasses + backpack + veja sneakers

Oxford shoes aren’t the only “Oxford” that seem to be very popular in Paris – the classic Oxford button-up was also everywhere. A clean white version with long sleeves will go with just about anything in your wardrobe and is good for any day of the week, work or play. A slim pair of black jeans is next.

If you’re wearing this look to the office, a sleek black backpack is the perfect practical accessory. Add sunglasses, ankle socks made visible by cuffing the pants, and then a pair of sneakers.

What was the most popular sneaker brand for men’s fall outfits in Paris? We saw quite a variety including Adidas, Asics, New Balance, Converse, etc., but by far the most noticeable brand for me was Veja. They are now based in Paris, so this makes sense! They’re a quality, but still affordable sneaker that gives you a clean look and comfort, and are nice enough looking that they’re even appropriate for the office.

9. oversized oxford shirt + black baseball cap + black straight leg jeans + asics shoes

Speaking of the Oxford shirt, here’s a slightly more oversized version to try out for this fall outfit. An oversized fit was very popular in Paris, for both men and women. The key is to try to balance an oversized piece with a closer-fitting one, like these slim jeans. That way, you don’t get swallowed up by too large of items!

Speaking of the Parisian way, the look of their jeans was also very clean, with no rips holes, or unnecessary embellishments. They had clean lines with simple designs and looked more elevated because of these reasons.

Finish the look with a pair of Asics and a baseball cap to make this look more appropriate for casual wear.

10. long coat+ white tee + sunglasses + medium wash jeans + canvas tote + sneakers

As your outermost layer, your coat is usually responsible for the first impression of your look during colder months! For this reason, many Parisian men seemed to take great care in choosing and maintaining their coats. To emulate a similar look, try choosing a longer overcoat like this one to elevate even your most casual outfits. A medium or dark brown like this one is a classic choice, and very versatile.

As for the base layer, a pair of blue jeans and a white tee will always take you a long way when it comes to assembling the perfect fall outfit. To maintain a more casual outfit, add a pair of clean white sneakers. An artistic canvas tote completes the look. But don’t forget your favorite sunglasses!

11. leather jacket (over the shoulder) + navy tee + gray slacks + Chelsea boots

men's fall outfits

A leather bomber jacket is the key to this look. It’s the perfect season to try out the rugged look, and if it warms up too much, throw it over your shoulder, as seen in the photo. It’s always a good idea to be prepared for colder weather to strike as the sun sets!

As for the base of this outfit, a simple pair of gray slacks and a blue t-shirt are the perfect foundation. And to finish it off, try a pair of Chelsea boots. Desert boots and Chelsea boots were all over Paris in men’s fall outfits, and offer a more casual but still comfortable and elevated look over Oxfords and loafers.

12. plaid scarf + newsboy cap + leather bomber + dark jeans + dress shoes

men's fall outfits

If you like the look of a leather bomber jacket, try leaning into the vintage look by adding a newsboy cap like this one for a classic look. The leather jacket is a denim jacket’s slightly edgier, rougher cousin for fall, and looks great when balanced out with more refined pieces like a slim pair of jeans and a pair of dress shoes.

Add a pair of Oxfords with thick soles for comfort and a refined touch. Finish the look with another pattern – a plaid scarf is the perfect choice for fall’s cooler weather.

13. khaki polo ralph lauren shirt + light wash jeans + new balance sneakers

men's fall outfits

If classic Americana is more your style, Ralph Lauren is the perfect brand for you. This khaki button-down is a perfect choice for fall, and a great pick for a capsule wardrobe as it can be dressed down with jeans for a weekend outing, or dressed up for work with a pair of chinos.

A light-wash pair of jeans makes this casual look perfect for daytime. This pair has a more relaxed fit, making them the ideal choice for cuffing the bottom to show off a pair of New Balances. They aren’t just “dad shoes” anymore – chunkier, classic sneaker brands like this were spotted all over Paris, for men and women. Plus, they’re super comfortable!

14. tan sweater vest + khaki pants + white tee + converse high tops

Wondering how to style a sweater vest? To avoid making it look too “workwear” for the weekend, try layering it over a basic white tee. This will help the look appear more casual, but still elevated and reminiscent of the academia aesthetic.

Keep the monochromatic look going with a pair of khaki chinos or slacks. Pleated trousers would also work well if you want to lean into the academic look. For a cool finishing touch, try a pair of Converse high tops. If you want to dress it up or translate this look for the office, try a pair of loafers or Oxfords.

15. jeans (cuffed) + white t-shirt + blazer + converse

Parisian street style was full of opposites to balance their looks – oversized pieces paired with slim ones, feminine and masculine, casual and dressier items. This look is the perfect example of that. Although a black blazer is traditionally seen as a more formal piece, when paired with a white tee, slim jeans, and a pair of Converse high tops, it creates a more casual look.

Finish the pairing with a leather bag for an elevated touch.

16. jogger pants + gray sweatshirt (tied around the shoulders) + tee + white sneakers

If you’re wondering how to upgrade your athleisure look, here’s the perfect solution. Although athleisure looks were pretty rare in Parisian street style, this is a slightly elevated way to pull it off.

First, choosing neutral pieces with subtle logos is important. Next, make sure that your clothes are clean, not stained, and aren’t wrinkled. These seemingly small details will go a long way in elevating the casual look. More fitted pieces will look nicer than baggier sweatshirts and sweats. Choose a pair of joggers like this one that tapers at the ankle, and will show off a crisp white pair of sneakers.

And for the finishing touch, tie a sweatshirt around your shoulders as an additional layer!

17. navy and white striped sweater + cuffed jeans + black vans

Classic navy and white stripes aren’t just a stereotype when it comes to French fashion. After all, all typical ideas of Parisian style come from somewhere, and this one is based on reality, for sure!

This classic look is perfect for fall, and can really translate to any season, no matter the time of year. For cooler weather, add a pair of straight-leg or slim blue jeans for an effortless look.

To top off the casual wear, slip into a pair of Vans.

18. ray bans+ sweater (around the shoulders) + denim shirt + khaki pants + loafers

This street style idea would be perfect for an afternoon at a winery, and even gave me East Coast vibes! Start with a denim shirt, in a light wash. For the rest of the outfit, stick with shades of beige and brown for a classic feel. Cuff a pair of tan chinos, and throw a sweater around your shoulders.

For the finishing touch, a pair of brown loafers (with no visible socks) make an elevated, chic men’s fall outfit. Sunglasses round out the look.

19. chino pants + sweater + oxfords + blazer + scarf

This fall look for men checks the list of all of autumn’s quintessential necessities. Start with a soft sweater in cream – bonus points if it’s cashmere. Then, add a pair of chinos in a dark olive. Next, a soft scarf (cashmere is a good idea for this piece as well) provides a sophisticated and warm touch to the look.

A plaid blazer is up next, which is the perfect classic jacket for the fall season. Finish the outfit with a pair of shiny black Oxfords. This look is a great idea for a coffee date, dinner, or even the office.

20. denim jacket + white tee + navy pants + white sneakers and socks

Is your denim jacket an all-star in your fall wardrobe? Here’s how the classic piece was worn in Parisian men’s street style. The jacket is the star of the show when paired with black and white foundational layers, like a pair of black skinny or slim jeans and a white tee.

White sneakers and socks finish out the cool, effortless weekend style.

21. corduroy button down + sunglasses + jeans + sneakers

Corduroy is the perfect solution if you’re looking for a variation of a classic button down for fall. This fabric is usually a little heavier and thicker, which makes it a great idea for extra warmth during this cooler time of year. Plus, choosing one in a forest green like this shade is perfect for fall. Next, choose a pair of dark wash blue jeans, in a slim or skinny style.

A pair of chunky white sneakers and a pair of sunglasses finish out the look.

22. blazer + tailored pants + black leather loafers

Wondering what Parisian men wear for work? Blazers, both fitted and oversized, were everywhere in a variety of colors and fabrics. For a more fitted style in gray, pair it with a pair of black chinos with a slightly cropped length.

This will help show off a pair of black leather loafers. The cropped look for men’s pants was everywhere – accomplished either by choosing more of a cropped style of pants or by cuffing the bottoms.

23. suit vest + button down + black trousers + sunglasses + oxford shoes

Here’s another idea of Parisian men’s workwear style. This look reminds me of Clark Kent! And the fitted vest is the superhero of this outfit. Pair it with a clean white button-down, and keep the rest of the outfit simple and classic with black trousers (or jeans, if you’d like to make it more casual).

A pair of black Oxfords finishes out the look, the perfect office style for fall.

The Highlights

Even on the weekends, Parisian men still dressed in an elevated way that showcased their care for their style, and the clothes they invest in. Plus, cooler weather means fall is a great season to try out new outfit combinations, especially when it comes to overcoats and layers.

If you’re looking for the highlights, or maybe what to invest in when it comes to men’s fall outfits, a nice overcoat or jacket, a pair of Oxford shoes, a quality white tee, a patterned scarf, and a pair of slim jeans would be a good place to start.

These are just 23 of the street styles that we saw in Paris. Wondering what a French stylist would recommend based on current trends? Carolyn found out firsthand! Up next: My Experience Shopping with a French Personal Stylist in Paris.
