As the weather changes, so do the latest fashion trends. Although I don’t recommend basing your wardrobe around trends, it can be fun to try something new every once in a while – especially when those new things are inspired by Paris! Recently, I was able to experience the newest trends in Paris, and almost everywhere I looked, people were donning fashionable yet attainable styles. From oversized sweaters to classic sneakers, let’s dig into a variety of trends you can try this fall and winter that I spotted on the streets of Paris.
1. Birken-Stoked About Birkenstocks
When it comes to footwear trends, sometimes comfort and style are seen as opposites. But on the streets of Paris, I saw a trend that defied that notion: Birkenstock clogs. Yes, you heard it right. Birkenstock clogs are coming in strong this fall and winter (and they’re already pretty popular here), and Parisians are absolutely loving them.
Gone are the days when clogs were seen as clunky and unfashionable. The new generation of Birkenstock clogs combines the classic silhouette with a soft, suede detail, creating a stylish and comfortable shoe that is perfect for the cooler months.
I saw Parisians pairing their Birkenstock clogs with everything from jeans to dresses. The versatility of these shoes is truly impressive! Whether you’re strolling through the city streets or going shopping, clogs can be dressed up or down.
You might not consider them fashionable, but Parisians know a thing or two about walking everywhere, and at the very least, this shoe style provides support and comfort. This shoe style is also loved for its contoured footbed and arch support.
2. Jewelry Meets Technology
Now, let’s talk about a fashion trend that caught my eye in Paris – the necklace phone case. The necklace phone case is exactly what it sounds like – a phone case attached to a chain or strap that you can wear around your neck like a necklace. They’re also known as a crossbody phone wallet or a phone bag.
I have not seen them much before, and for those who live in a big city and are always on the go, it makes sense as being a must-have accessory. It seems like the perfect solution for those moments when you don’t want to carry a purse or constantly have your phone in your hand. With the necklace phone case, your phone is always within reach and securely held, while also being a stylish accessory.
A lot of Parisians are embracing this trend, and I can see why. Though I’d prefer to keep my phone tucked away, not everyone has that option or wants to lug around a purse in the city for a quick walk. So not only is it a convenient way to carry your phone, but it also adds a unique and fashionable touch to any outfit. If you have to carry your phone, and almost everyone does, you might as well make it a fashion statement!
3. Be Sew Cool in Quilted Style
The quilted style is coming on strong in a few different ways. First, the quilted look is exactly how it sounds – clothes that look like they were made from a quilt or even your grandma’s bed sheets. Think dainty florals or a patchwork look.
Second, the quilted style is popular in a different way too – the quilted texture and diamond style pattern. All around, quilted jackets are a great fashion staple for the fall and winter season, and the streets of Paris are proof of that! Everywhere you look, you’ll see Parisians rocking these stylish and cozy jackets. The quilted design adds a unique and textured element to any outfit, while also providing warmth and comfort.
Whether you opt for a classic olive green quilted jacket or go for a bold color or beautiful pattern, it’s a subtle way to elevate your style game. Pair your quilted jacket with jeans and ankle boots for a casual daytime look, or throw it over a dress and heels for a more polished and sophisticated ensemble.
4. Wrapped Up in Cozy
When you think of French women you may think of thin silk scarves and red lipstick. And though that’s not necessarily wrong, let me reintroduce to you a different type of scarf: the oversized scarf.
Bigger, slightly oversized, and loosely draped scarves are fantastic accessories for the fall and winter seasons, and Parisians are embracing this look with open arms. These scarves not only keep you warm but also add a touch of style to any outfit.
The streets of Paris are filled with fashion-forward individuals, both men and women, draped in oversized scarves in a variety of colors, patterns, and textures. The oversized nature of these scarves adds a cozy and chic vibe to any ensemble. And on the flip side, I saw plenty of bandana-style scarves as well. So whether you prefer a smaller style or more of a statement, you really can’t go wrong. Just try a scarf!
A scarf is just one of the things you need for a French fall/winter capsule wardrobe. Want to know the others? I have a free shopping checklist for you that you can get by signing up here!
5. Cropped With a Culotte Twist
I remember wearing gauchos in middle school, so I myself think this look is a blast from the past. Slightly reinvented, these cropped culottes have a bit of structure and are in a variety of materials, making them feel slightly more modern.
If you can get past how they feel like a throwback style, these versatile bottoms are a perfect blend of comfort and style. They can provide a chic and polished look while allowing for freedom of movement.
What I love about the idea of cropped culottes is their ability to be dressed up or down. Pair them with a blouse and heels for a sophisticated office outfit, or wear them with a cozy sweater and boots for a more casual look. The cropped length adds a trendy touch and showcases your favorite footwear, whether it’s ankle boots, loafers, or sneakers. They are perfect for showcasing your personal style and adding a fashion-forward element to your outfits.
6. Sweater Season, but Make It Breezy
I have not seen this a lot in the US yet, so it’s hard to find a good name for it, but whether it’s the sweater vest with open sides, open vest, or open-sided sweater vest, this style is just starting to take hold in Paris – which means it may be several more years until it becomes “normal” here.
Sweater vests are always a fall/winter staple, but in this case, the sides of the vest are completely open and not attached to anything. The open sides add a fun and modern twist to this wardrobe classic. Not only do the open sides give them a contemporary edge, but they can show just the right amount of your top while still keeping you warm and cozy.
Though I don’t have one myself (yet), I would style these the same way as traditional sweater vests. Pair this sweater vest with a button-down shirt, tailored pants, and heeled boots for a chic and professional look. Or go for a more casual vibe by layering it over a turtleneck and pairing it with jeans and ankle boots.
7. Man Up Your Footwear Game
Shoes that may be traditionally thought of as men’s shoes are a huge hit for women. Parisian style is all about the mix and match – so pairing these masculine shoes, such as loafers and oxford/derby shoes with feminine pieces is the perfect way to style a look and wear your outfit – instead of having your outfit wear you.
Loafers, with their slip-on design and comfortable fit, are the epitome of effortless style. Whether you choose a classic leather loafer or opt for a more modern suede or velvet version, these shoes add a sophisticated touch to any outfit. Pair them with tailored pants and a blazer for a polished and refined look, or wear them with jeans and a chunky sweater for a more relaxed vibe.
Oxfords are another staple in the Parisian fashion scene. With their lace-up design and sleek silhouette, oxfords offer a blend of elegance and masculinity. They are perfect for both formal and casual occasions, and can easily be paired with dress pants, jeans, or even dresses.
If they align with your style, try incorporating a pair of these shoes into your wardrobe! They are not only stylish and versatile, but they also add a touch of Parisian charm to your outfit.
8. Ma’am, Your Socks Are Showing
One of the more unexpected trends I noticed on the streets of Paris was the visibility of socks. Yes, you heard that right – socks! Parisians have taken the humble sock and turned it into a stylish accessory that can instantly elevate any outfit.
From sheer socks with delicate lace trim to simple white trouser socks to vibrant patterned socks peeking out of sneakers, this trend adds a playful and fashion-forward element to your look. Whether you’re wearing ankle boots, sneakers, loafers, ballet flats, or even clogs, embrace the visibility of your taller socks. This is not the same thing as showing your low-cut socks by the way. Ideally, you want them to go above your ankle, so it looks like an intentional fashion choice.
One of my favorite ways to rock this trend is by pairing my favorite trouser socks with loafers or clogs. Sometimes it just feels more comfortable to wear socks with shoes, especially when traveling, and I love how this trend is embracing that. No longer do you have to feel dorky if socks show – now it’s the cool thing!
Another way to embrace the visible socks trend is by layering them over tights or leggings. This adds an unexpected twist to your outfit and adds an extra layer of warmth during the colder months.
9. Pants With Leg Room
Wide-leg bottoms are a trend that is making a big impact on the fall and winter fashion scene in Paris! Parisians have fully embraced this trend, and it’s easy to see why. These flowy and relaxed pants are not only stylish but also incredibly comfortable.
Whether it’s oversized bottoms, loose boyfriend jeans, wide-leg jeans, flowing high-waisted trousers, or loose-cropped pants, the versatility of wide-leg bottoms would make them a great addition to your fall and winter wardrobe.
To balance out the bottoms, pair them with a fitted top. If you like the style, you can still wear a more voluminous top, but do something to add some shape to your body, such as front tucking your sweater.
10. Shine Bright Like a Diamond
Another trend that is taking the fall/winter fashion scene by storm in Paris is the use of patent materials. This bold and attention-grabbing fabric is everywhere, and it’s definitely making a statement. From patent leather jackets to patent pants, the streets of Paris are shining bright with this trend.
Why give it a try? The use of patent materials can add a touch of edginess to any outfit. Whether you opt for a head-to-toe shiny ensemble or incorporate small touches of patent or vinyl, embracing a little bit of shine and gloss to your fall/winter wardrobe will have you exuding confidence in no time.
To create a Parisian styled look, mix and match your textures and try pairing a cozy knit sweater with your shiny pants for a cool contrast.
11. This Style Is Big Enough for the Both of Us
Parisians also call this an “ethnic” style, but even here in the states, wherever you look, it’s western everything right now. Think cowboy/western boots, fringe details, and western-inspired accessories like turquoise and handmade jewelry. This trend is all about channeling your inner cowgirl and adding a touch of the Wild West to your outfit.
One key element of Western style is the cowboy boot. But no – it’s not in the way you’re thinking. Instead of donning a knee-high cowboy boot that brings to mind an episode of Yellowstone, most Parisians are opting for a more subtle style. Think western inspired ankle boot or mid-calf cowboy boot.
Parisians are rocking these iconic boots with everything from jeans to dresses. The rugged yet stylish design adds a bold and adventurous element to any ensemble. Pair them with a flowy midi dress for a boho-inspired look or go for a more edgy vibe by wearing them with jeans and a leather blazer.
Not sure if the Western look is your style? Same here. In order to not lose your sense of self, start small. If you even want to try out the trend that is! Pair your ankle western boots with clothing pieces you already love – whether that’s your favorite blazer or classic white button-down. You may even create a new trend – Western Chic!
12. Sweater Weather Is Always a Knit
When it comes to cozy winter fashion, oversized chunky knit sweaters that look like they’ve been handmade are very popular, and the streets of Paris are proof of that. Everywhere you look, you’ll see Parisians rocking these stylish and comfortable sweaters. And it’s easy to see why they’re such a popular “trend”!
Oversized chunky knit sweaters not only keep you warm during the colder months but also add a touch of chic and effortless style to any outfit. The chunky knit fabric adds texture and dimension, creating a cozy and relaxed vibe. Whether you choose a classic neutral color like beige or black or go for a bold and vibrant hue, you can’t go wrong with this trend.
One of the best things about oversized chunky knit sweaters is their versatility. They can be easily dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Pair them with jeans and ankle boots for a casual daytime look or wear them over a flowy dress for a more bohemian vibe. The options are endless. You’ll feel cozy, stylish, and ready to take on the cold weather in true Parisian fashion.
13. Size Up Your Style With Bigger Belt Bags
Belt bags are not a new style, but in Paris, they are slightly bigger than the cult favorite Lululemon style that we’re used to in the states. As far as what’s trending over in Paris, think more of an oversized belt bag or half-moon sling bag.
These stylish accessories combine functionality with fashion in the most effortless way. The bigger size allows you to carry all your essentials while keeping your hands free, making them perfect for exploring the beautiful streets of Paris.
The half-moon shape adds a unique and modern touch, elevating your outfit and giving it a fashionable edge. Plus, the belt feature allows you to wear it around your waist or across your chest, giving you multiple styling options.
14. Hunting Season? It’s Cuffing Season
Cuffed jeans are a timeless and effortlessly cool trend that Parisians are rocking on the streets. There’s something about the simple act of rolling up the hem of your jeans that adds a touch of casual sophistication to any outfit. The cuffed look instantly elevates your style and shows that you have a keen eye for fashion.
Mostly done with wide-leg jeans or boyfriend jeans, cuffing them at the ankles adds a little something to your look. Pair your cuffed jeans with ankle boots, sneakers, or even heels for a chic and versatile look.
The best part about cuffed jeans? You don’t have to buy anything! Now that you’ve cuffed your jeans, throw on a pair of taller socks with your shoes for a full Parisian-style moment.
15. Don’t Skirt Around Pleats
I thought that pleated midi skirts had their moment, but they are still going strong, and really, it’s easy to see why. These versatile and feminine skirts add a touch of elegance and sophistication to any outfit!
The midi length is perfect for the fall and winter seasons, keeping you warm while still allowing for plenty of movement. The pleats add volume and movement to the skirt, creating a flowing and ethereal look.
Pair your pleated midi skirt with a cozy knit sweater and ankle boots for a chic and comfortable daytime look, or dress it up with a blouse and heels for a more formal occasion, like a holiday party. You’ll feel effortlessly stylish and feminine in this timeless and on-trend piece.
16. Size Up Your Coat Game
It seems like everyone is embracing the cozy and stylish look of oversized menswear-inspired outerwear pieces. These coats provide a perfect blend of comfort and fashion. The oversized fit allows for layering and adds a cool and effortless vibe to any outfit, and the men’s style look provides a classic touch yet cool contrast to the rest of your look.
Pair your oversized coat with jeans and sneakers for a casual and trendy look, or dress it up with loafers and dress pants for a more sophisticated ensemble. The options are endless! Whether you’re trying to be “on trend” or not, investing in a classic coat is always a good idea.
17. Sneaking in Both Style and Comfort
Though it’s not really a trend as much as it’s a style choice (and one I’m sure you’re already doing), pairing sneakers with oversized blazers is a fashion look that is all over the streets of Paris.
This look is all about combining comfort and style in the most effortless way possible. The pairing of sneakers with oversized blazers creates a cool and relaxed look that is perfect for both casual and dressier occasions. Whether you’re running errands around the city or meeting friends for brunch, this combination allows you to stay comfortable while still looking fashion-forward.
The juxtaposition of the casual sneakers and the structured blazer adds a touch of edginess to your outfit and shows off your personal style.
18. These Shorts Are Tailored for You
In the fall, the weather can still be warm in Paris. (We’re talking high 70s when I was there.) And though it is still technically shorts weather, you won’t see many Parisians wearing denim shorts or running shorts. Instead, high-waisted tailored shorts were the choice for many.
Tailored shorts provide the perfect balance between style and ease. The clean and structured silhouette adds a polished touch to any outfit, while the shorter length keeps you cool and allows you to show off your legs. Pair your tailored shorts with a crisp button-down shirt and loafers for a sophisticated office look, or go for a more casual vibe with a cozy sweater and flats.
And if the weather gets cooler? Pair tights underneath them. It’s a totally acceptable and fashionable style!
19. Looking Good Is More Than Sheer Luck
On the topic of tights, black and sheer tights are being worn with everything from shorts to mini skirts to dresses.
The beauty of these tights is their ability to add a touch of sophistication and polish to any outfit. Whether you’re going for a more formal look or aiming for a chic and casual ensemble, these tights effortlessly elevate your style game. The sheer fabric creates a subtle yet alluring effect, giving your legs a smooth and flawless appearance.
Not only are they stylish but they’re practical and versatile too. They’re great for adding a little extra warmth when you need it, extending the life of your summer clothes, and achieving an effortless transition between the seasons.
20. Vejas, Adidas, Converse, Oh My!
Veja and Adidas Samba sneakers are the footwear stars of the streets in Paris right now. These sneakers have become a staple in Parisian fashion, combining comfort and style effortlessly.
Veja sneakers, known for their sustainable and eco-friendly materials, have gained popularity among fashion-conscious individuals. With their sleek design and unique color combinations, Veja sneakers add a touch of understated elegance to any outfit.
On the other hand, Adidas Samba sneakers are all about sporty chic. The classic design and iconic three stripes make these sneakers a go-to choice for many Parisians.
And of course, we can’t forget about Converse. These timeless sneakers have been a fashion staple for decades, and Parisians continue to embrace their timeless appeal. Whether you pair them with jeans and a blazer or a flowy dress, Veja, Adidas Samba, and Converse sneakers add a cool and casual vibe to your look.
21. Denim Game, Strong and Classy
One of the chicest fashion trends I spotted on the streets of Paris was the combination of lady jackets with jeans. This effortless and stylish pairing perfectly balances casual chic. The lady jackets, with their tailored and structured silhouette and classic tweed material, add a refined touch to any outfit.
And when paired with jeans, the look becomes instantly cool and casual. The juxtaposition of the structured jacket and the relaxed denim creates a perfect balance between dressed-up and dressed-down. Whether it was a cropped jacket with high-waisted jeans or a longer jacket with straight-leg denim, this combination was all about embracing femininity with a touch of edge!
Whether you’re visiting Paris and want to fit in, or you simply want to bring a little bit of Paris to your wardrobe, these fall winter Paris fashion trends are attainable and stylish. Can it get any better than that?

These trends may be upcoming, but for the most part any of these looks could have been photo-shopped from anywhere and inserted on a Paris street scene. Nothing elegant or innovative here. No need to change anything in my wardrobe, not for these sloppy looks. Pass.
Parisian style is known for being classic, not innovative. Having said that, staying true to your personal style is important. If these trends don’t resonate with you, that’s totally fine and I agree that there is no need to change your wardrobe for them. No need to call them sloppy, however.
Thank you Carolyn for bringing us the latest trends from Paris. I always appreciate the great content on your posts. Thank you very much
Thanks for the feedback, Holly. I’m glad you appreciated this!
Carolyn, thank you for the overview. It has something for everyone and lots to work with within our wardrobes or a simple add. Good ideas for staying current, thank you.
So glad you appreciated this overview, Joyce! I agree that there are a lot of different styles showcased, whether you want something a bit more unique (open sided sweater vest) or classic (jeans with blazers). Thank you for noticing that!
Traveled to Paris a couple of times in the last 2 months…the Parisian basics seem to be: nice bag and watch, small jewelry, casual sneakers or flats, blazer/coat/puffer jacket, always a scarf, and just looking neat/put-together. These looks are always classy and don’t go out of style. The Parisians don’t TRY to look trendy. They are just comfortable, fitted and classic. No backpacks, wearing tons of brand names, never athletic wear on the street. Follow these basics, and you’ll always look nice.
I very much agree! Their “trends” don’t always look like our trends because it’s usually just nice and classic clothing!
Thank you so much for the article & the inspo..These are great pieces ,I definitely found something I neednto seen if I can find second hand to add as staples pieces. Such as the clogs ( inhave the fuzzy ugg style, the camel blazer jacket, the studded bag is so nice!
I just got tall black boots but mine have a taller but think heel. I have a nice soft sweater ..constantly building my staples.
In your opinion are chambray button downs still in style as a staple?
I’m glad you liked the inspo! And yes, though chambray is the lighter version of denim, denim button downs are still in style as a fall staple. Happy wardrobe building!
